Atlast Photoshop CS5 got launched , this is something everyone already knows . And it was packed with many new features but something I was very eager to try out was “content aware fill” . The kind of videos that surfaced on the internet were almost to good to be true . As the trial versions got out , I quickly installed one on my computer . 30 days of fun .
Didn’t bother into reading much on the internet from this point on . The name contains “fill” in it , so I thought it would be somewhere in the selection (right click ) fill menu .
So here is how one should do content aware my way
1.Open the image (Courtney : www.Bhushanmate.com)
2. Select object to be removed using any selection tool , here I have used ‘Rectanguler marquee tool(M)’

3.Right-click on the selection , select “Fill”

4.In the contents dialong box , click on the ‘Use’ drop down menu , select ‘Content aware fill’ , blending mode normal , opacity 100% , click ok .

And when you see the results , its really a magic . Correction was never so easy .

These are our day to day images , not the Ideal images that promoters use in the examples .And it works almost perfectly here . I could hv done more correction here , but getting that man out of the frame was never my intention , its was just and example for the fun sake .
Well again I ll say it ‘It is really magic ‘. Too good tool for removal of unwanted object , trash and other things and for cleaning up your photo. But u need to play around with it for hundreds of time before you get exact idea of how it works . after a while you will hv a rough model set in ur mind on what result you will get . Its not a perfect tool , a little more flawed than i had expected.
I mostly do landscape photography . In india electricity transmission and distribution wires is a major obstacle in composing a scene . A major turn off . In good old days(time up to cs4 ) removing a wire or a pillar out of the picture without leaving a trace used to take atleast 30 mins . When I saw the first video of Content aware fill on youtube , the thing that struck me was ” hope this works with wires ” . And it does .
Below are some examples .

Hi Suhas,
As probably you have heard many times before, you have some great photographs. I am sure you would like to interact with like minded people and share your experiences. I am into it since last couple of years, so just entered and learning.
How about some narration on how you have taken each photograph. I recently came across a blog from our fellow marathi photographer friend who writes a post for each photo with setup and all info, I don’t have the name on top of my head but I will share it with later.
I would be interested to know the camera settings for photos like aperture, shutter speeds and filters used etc. if you not using auto mode.
My kit is, Nikon d60, nikkor 18-55mm, sigma 70-300, and sigma 10-20mm, carbon fibre tripod, and UV filters. How about you!?
My email is here, let’s connect on email.
Cheers,
Abhijeet

Thanks for sharing such a comprehensive article… however, I’ve found that you don’t blog much..I’m sure you must be occupied with lot other important stuff ..by the way, Kudos to you for organizing such a fantastic event and the core team of Drishtikon for clicking so many shots of the exhibition so that less fortunate guys like me were not left miles behind
….I would love to read your reviews on camera equipments that you have or you worked with or camera holding techniques or which photo editing tool to use PS or LR ..even something like do’s and don’ts of landscape photography or travel photography.
I’ve already commented a lot on your shots ..but shots of wari is something very dear to me ..they have made a place for themselves in my heart .. I look at them as benchmarks for landscape photography..probably nikon’s D300 must’ve excellent dynamic range compared to mine D3000 to give such a feel to those shots …but its your ‘Drushtikon’ that adds more depth n color ..in every shot there’s a story unfolding
Keep Rocking, Keep Shooting and all the best for D11 (I second it be the title next year
)

Thank you Suhas,
Will try to work on reviews / techniques thing you suggested .
I use 5D m2 , it certainly adds more dynamic range to the photo .
